Animal craft ideas…

This week’s ‘theme’ in our house was animals! There are so many different animals to explore it’s hard to know where to start, so we decided to get some inspiration from our story books.

Whilst reading ‘Rumble in the jungle’ the girls decided we could start with jungle animals… Alicia made an elephant from cardboard (simply cutting out flat shapes and slotting them in to make a 3D effect.)

Whilst Alexa took inspiration from ‘Elmer the elephant’ and created an elephant from a milk carton and used tissue paper for his ‘patchwork’.

We also made some salt dough animal prints from a very easy recipe… 1 cup of salt, 1 cup of flour & 1/2 cup of water! We mixed it together then cut circle shapes out and used measuring spoons to make imprints into the dough. (The girls decided to make hand prints at the same time.) Finally we baked them in the oven at a very low heat for a couple of hours, before painting them the next day!

The final ‘animal craft’ we did this week was creating a giant giraffe… We followed some easy drawing tips on YouTube and loved the finished result! Alicia drew the outline in pencil first, then we used paint sticks to colour it in.

We also brought ‘animals’ into our numeracy & literacy work this week. Alexa completed some fabulous ‘animal maths’ and ‘animal word-searches’ whilst Alicia created animal riddles & stories.

We played LOTS of animal games! Imagination games / role play where we pretended to be various different animals as well as animal themed board games like ‘hungry hippos’ and ‘pig goes pop!’

Animals has been a great theme for the week and there are so many ideas we didn’t get round to doing so will probably re-visit in a few weeks with some more crafty fun!

Sending lots of boogie love
